Montenegro’s mountainous geography consists of an impressive 50 peaks over 2000 meters, and its mountainous terrain extends all the way to a sharp drop in elevation at the coast. The country is also home to a large number of mountainous lakes, with the largest being the Lake Scutari.
Montenegro has a population of 619,858 (2020) and is divided into 24 municipalities.
With a land area of 13,812 km², land use is characterized by forestry and agriculture (40.4% and 38.2%). Agricultural land is mostly permanent pasture (24.1% and some arable land 12.9%).
