The Dinaric-Balkan-Pindos Large Carnivore Initiative

Regional collaboration and exchange on wildlife management

In the Dinaric-Balkan-Pindos biodiversity hotspot, protected species and habitats thrive. Brown bear (Ursus arctos), wolf (Canis lupus) and Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx), including the endangered subspecies Balkan lynx (Lynx lynx balcanicus) cross national and regional borders. Transnational coordination for their management is essential to enable a long-term basis for their conservation.

Who we are

The Dinaric-Balkan-Pindos region is one of the most biologically diverse regions in Europe. In this biodiversity hotspot, protected species and habitats thrive. These include brown bear (Ursus arctos), wolf (Canis lupus) and Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx), including the endangered subspecies Balkan lynx (Lynx lynx balcanicus).

The Platform

The Dinaric-Balkan-Pindos #DiBaPi Platform is an exchange format for national decision-makers and stakeholders to come together to discuss large carnivore management: both practical day to day issues and longer-term collaboration.

The initiative

The Dinaric-Balkan-Pindos #DiBaPi initiative links stakeholders and governments encouraging an open exchange and collaboration on ongoing projects. If your organisation would like to be involved, let us know.

The region

The following countries are involved in the initiative and have actively taken part in platform meetings: Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo1, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia.
