Greece is well known for its vast network of around 3000 islands and its impressive marine biodiversity, however the Greek mainland also makes up the majority of the southern Balkan peninsula. The country boasts an immense biogeographic diversity as a result.
Greece has a population of 10,384,971 (2022) and is divided into 322 municipalities.
The country has a land area of 131,957 km², and about 63.4% of the land use is agricultural, split between arable land (19.7%), permanent crops (8.9%) and permanent pasture (34.8%).
